Can you install double pocket doors into concrete or block walls?
Yes however it requires a specific approach. We cannot hollow out a solid concrete block wall. Instead, we create the structural opening in the blockwork, and then build an independent timber stud framework on one or both sides to house the double OPK rail system and create the cavity.
Can skirting boards and architraves still be fitted?
Absolutely. Once our structural pocket frame is sheeted with plasterboard and skimmed, it behaves exactly like a standard wall. You can nail or screw your skirting boards and decorative architraves directly into the timber framework of the pocket without any risk of piercing or scratching the sliding doors.
Is there a track on the floor that will divide my living and sitting room?
No. Our premium OPK system is a top-hung rail system. The entire weight of the double doors is supported from above. There is no floor track disrupting your carpet, wood, or laminate flooring. We install a tiny, concealed floor guide inside the pocket itself to keep the doors perfectly plumb so they never swing or rattle.
Will there be a draft coming out of the wall pockets?
No. When we construct the secondary stud wall to house the double doors, the pocket cavity is entirely contained within the internal room layout. Drafts only occur if a pocket is built directly against an uninsulated external single-skin wall. We properly insulate and seal the framework during construction to ensure your home stays warm and energy-efficient.
Do the two doors lock together in the center?
Yes, they can. If you require security or privacy (for instance, if the sitting room doubles as a guest bedroom), we can install specialized hook-bolt privacy locks designed specifically for double pocket doors, allowing them to latch securely together in the middle.
